Basic Woodworking – Joints Part 1 – new dates for Spring 2022

The workshop is for SLMS members, and this is reflected the discounted rate

Duration: 2 hours

Never done woodwork before? Got a project in your head but not sure where to start?

During this course you will learn a variety of woodworking joints, gain skills with basic hand tools and learn where each of these joints can be used.

This also includes a basic health and safety introduction to our new wood workshop.

Joints

Butt Joint and mitred joint with introduction to fixing methods including glue, screws, nails, dowels, biscuits and dominoes.

Half Lap

Mitred Half Lap

Tee Halving

Half Dovetail

Skills

Learn to measure, mark and cut accurately with handsaws, marking gauges and marking knives.

Use of the hand plane with a shooting board.

Setting up and using the router plane.

Planing, Sanding and finishing.

Covering up mistakes.

Use of fixings & adhesives

Correct use and care of chisels.
